Beelicious

OUR STORY

Our love affair with honey began in the late 1990s. After battling allergies in a new city and state, a family friend and physician recommended I find local honey. So I began my search and found a local beekeeper selling honey near our new home. I was hooked. As the years passed by, another move and the addition of children sparked the need to look for local honey again. Our oldest son began having allergy problems and the search was on; this time proved much more difficult than before. After much effort, we did find one older beekeeper that lived an hour away that made deliveries to our area. As time passed, it became harder and harder to get the product and the deliveries to our area ceased.

In a rare chain of events, Keith was asked by a friend to consider beekeeping. This friend was getting into the hobby and encouraged Keith. Our immediate thought was HONEY! Soon thereafter we became the proud owners of five hives. Those first years Keith spent many hours researching and learning about bees, and beekeeping to develop the best way to manage the hives we have today.

In 2006, we moved to Hattiesburg, MS, along with our five hives of bees. Our bees actually moved to our sprawling family farm in Lumberton, MS, the once home of my grandparents and their thriving family of six. The bees are nestled in the among the orchard and pecan trees and have plenty of room on the 200 plus acres to forage among the native plant life.

It was during this move that Beelicious was formed. As the number of our hives increased and the amount of honey exceeded our families need, we decided that this might be a wonderful small family business. With the right skill set of my background in marketing and public relations and Keith’s in business and finance, it all only seemed natural.

As we have learned about bees and honey so have our children. It has been a wonderful educational opportunity for us all. The children love going to the apiary with Keith, donning their bee suits where they can get up close and see how it all works. We continue to be thankful to the fascinating honeybee, the incredible honey, and Our Maker for creating it all.
